During this course the current use of 5-ALA in glioma surgery and its benefits for patients will be presented, as will emerging applications in brain tumors apart from gliomas. Participants should develop an understanding for the hardware presently employed for fluorescence guided surgery and their validation. Finally, the potential therapeutic use of ALA-derived tumor porphyrins and respective studies on photodynamic therapy, radiodynamic therapy and sonodynamic therapy will be reviewed.
