Description:

Even though you may not consider yourself a “deformity surgeon”, if you operate on the lumbar spine, you should take this course! What seems like a relatively minor spinal deformity or spondylolisthesis may significantly impact the choice of surgery and surgical approach. Speakers will discuss the basics of lumbopelvic balance, as well as current practices for decompression and stabilization (including MIS techniques) in the lumbar spine, along with their advantages and disadvantages.

Learning Objectives:

  • Measure basic lumbopelvic parameters and discuss their potential impact on surgical planning and outcomes
  • Discuss the pros and cons of decompression alone versus fusion for spondylolisthesis
  • Discuss the pros and cons of interbody fusion for degenerative spondylolisthesis
  • Discuss the pros and cons of short vs. long constructs in the setting of degenerative lumbar deformity
  • Review treatment options for isthmic spondylolisthesis
