Society Day Course
The prognosis of acutely ill comatose patients in the intensive care unit is often unclear. While some people may emerge from coma, others may persist with a chronic disorder of consciousness. In comatose survivors of cardiac arrest and traumatic brain injury, neurologic prognosis is required to help inform discussions regarding goals of care. Currently, this is determined using a multimodal approach to diagnostic and prognostic investigations, as opposed to the previous reliance on the identification of singular poor prognostic factors. In this clinical workshop, presenters will review current multimodal techniques and a framework within which to derive a neurologic prognosis in critically ill patients.
