CCS: Visual Lessons in Movement Disorders

Description:

Attendees will review video examples of clinical features of hyperkinetic and hypokinetic movement disorders and participate in an interactive discussion about visual diagnosis of movement disorders. The interactive discussion for cases will also include ancillary laboratory and imaging correlates of the conditions shown. Participants will work through several examples of managing movement disorder cases when there is some ambiguity or unusual feature.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe features that support classifying ambiguous movement disorders as (for example) tics, myoclonus, functional movement disorders
  • Describe three ways of distinguishing tremor types when there is some ambiguity on initial examination
  • Describe an approach to investigation of acquired adult-onset ataxia when common causes have been excluded
  • Describe a structured approach to identifying muscles involved in cervical dystonia
  • Discuss an approach to acutely presenting hyperkinetic movement disorders
