Neurosurgery Residents' Review Course: Neuro-oncology - What You Need to Know; Tumour Board and Mini-Hot Seat

Description:

This full day course is designed to review the essential elements of neuro-oncology with an emphasis on neurosurgical oncology. Topics will include neuropathology, surgical management of different types of brain tumour, radiation therapy including stereotactic radiosurgery, medical neuro-oncology and neuro-oncology research. Emphasis will be on "what you need to know" and the course is particularly targeted towards neurosurgery residents and fellows, though it should have appeal to practicing neurosurgeons and neurologists. The course will include a case-based "Tumour Board" discussion with all faculty members that incorporates a collegial "Hot Seat" with resident attendees.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the current classifaction system for brain tumours.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to discuss the surgical management of high and low grade glioma.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to discuss the surgical management of brain metastasis and brain meningiomas.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to discuss the surgical management of skull base tumours and pituitary tumours.
